Frank Schlegel
Residual friction

No complex composition, no plan, no design. At the beginning we rather have the series, a basic serial diversity that is due to the situation and only later narrowed down and reduced to this one special photo.

But why is it always this image in the end?

Probably because it in its harmony or disharmony, in its familiarity or non-familiarity, in what it shows or doesn’t show, it best matches my feeling, my imagining of the ‘thing’ that it is an image of, which this special photographic location is about or could be about. But the photo can never embody the invisible we are talking about in an ideal way because it arises from the moment and chance.

And as always a residue that does not work remains ... a residual friction of the contingency that does not dissolve and keeps different ways of understanding in its internal tension.
